It’s time to take the Census! Unfortunately, our community doesn’t always fill it out, in part, because of the harmful myths about it. We’re here to bust those Census myths and help you get counted.

Myth 1: The Census doesn’t impact me.

False! The Census determines who your elected representatives will be, and who gets over $800 BILLION in federal funding for health care, education, housing, transportation, and more.

Myth 2: The government will share my information.

Not true. Your Census responses “can never be shared with immigration enforcement agencies or law enforcement,” and that’s straight from the Constitution.

Myth 3: I don’t have to respond if I don’t want to.

Wrong! Responding is required by law. If you avoid your Census duties, someone will even come to your house to help you fill it out.

Myth 4: Only U.S. citizens have to participate.

Nope! The Constitution requires “the whole number of persons in each state” to be counted. Undocumented immigrants, your nephew living in your basement, your daughter’s friend from Peru here on a student visa – EVERYONE.

Now that you know the truth about the Census, you can be a myth buster and help your gente get counted, too!
