While our neighbors prepared for the arrival of Santa Claus, our Christmas was all about Baby Jesus! Instead of putting up a tree 🎄 or winter village to decorate, our family’s priority was the Nativity, front and center.

Some have had their Niño Jesús for generations (and some even have different changes of clothes for him!).

While our classmates were preparing for Santa’s arrival 🎅🏽 and getting tucked into bed reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,’ our parents made us stay up until midnight 🌙 because we absolutely had to go to Misa de Gallo 🐔

Only then could when we finally kiss the baby Jesus in his manger and enjoy a fancy piece of chocolate before bed.

As ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ is blasting in other homes, we had “Mi Burrito Sabanero” 🎶on repeat.

Some families have kids writing letters to Santa 💌 some have them leaving a shoe 👟 out for Los Reyes Magos. Luckily, as Latinos we don’t have to choose between traditions. We can have our fancy Nochebuena chocolate, and eat it too!
