Hey, remember that time Trump announced his 2016 presidential run by calling Mexicans rapists, criminals, and drug dealers? Well, it’s no surprise that he still wants to implement his extreme immigration views. Let’s get into some of the craziest, most undemocratic, and most unhinged ideas he’s concocted against people who don’t look like him.
Just about everyone in this country agrees that you shouldn’t mess with the U.S. Constitution. Not Trump, though! He straight up wants to stomp all over the 14th Amendment by ending birthright citizenship. This gives anyone born within U.S. borders automatic citizenship—a pillar of our democracy for more than 150 years. His plan to do this entails signing an executive order. In other words, he’d ignore the entire constitutional process. Remember, Pulso Fam, this is the guy who banned Muslims from entering the country on his first day in office last time he was Prez.
Let’s get back to those travel bans. Looking to double up on one of his most unpopular policies, Trump plans to ban travelers from much of the Middle East as well as socialist/Marxist countries. That includes Cuba and Venezuela because, for some reason, Trump wants to antagonize two diasporas who have actually strongly supported him in the past.
Trump promised to deport all 10.5 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S., citing the breathtakingly bigoted Operation Wetback as a model. For those doing the math, that means removing 3% of the country’s total population. “How would he do that?,” you ask? By completely ignoring laws preventing military use against U.S. civilians and deploying the National Guard to round up millions of people, of course. This bears repeating: Trump is the guy who separated thousands of children from their families, many of whom are still lost. He’ll do it – and worse – if he gets a second chance.
