This year marked many firsts, especially for the entertainment industry. Events like award shows were adapted to bring us the best of the best in our new virtual reality. And these Latinas managed to light up our year with their music and bring home major trophies:
Letâs start with the queen herself: Jennifer Lopez. At the Billboard Latin Music Awards she won Tour of Year for her 2019 âItâs My Partyâ tour series. But JLo took in a bigger win at the 2020 Billboard Women in Music awards, receiving the Icon award for her impeccable trajectory.
Next up is Cardi B, who took the win for a third consecutive year as the Top Rap Female Artist at the Billboard Music Awards. The Afro-Latina was also named one of 2020âs Women of the Year because of her fourth #1 record on the Billboard charts and her political activism this year.Â
Making history at the American Music Awards (AMAs) was Becky G, who won the first-ever Favorite Latin Female Artist award. This Latina took the category by storm, and in a heartfelt speech, dedicated her award to all immigrant workers and families, including her abuelitos â€ïž
Other winners included Natalia Lafourcade for Album of the year at the Latin Grammyâs and Karol G who took two wins at Billboardâs Latin Music Awards and one at the AMAs. This year was huge for Latin representation in the industry and included a whole lot of GIRL POWER đȘđœ
